Blank Canvas is an ecumenical youth work charity, based in Redcar, North Yorkshire, and working with each denomination across the town. A key part of their vision is to give every young person in Redcar the opportunity to know the hope of Jesus. Funding from The Lauderdale Trust has enabled them to employ a dedicated youth worker to lead and galvanise the local churches to invest in the faith journey of young people.
Each week we are seeing young people explore faith, engage with the Bible and begin to take seriously what it means to follow Jesus. Through various spaces in local churches across Redcar, young people are finding places of safety and welcome, supported by Christians from local churches who volunteer with Blank Canvas. We keep on having to order Bibles due to continued requests from young people who want to have their first Bible and then ask for mentoring. In 2020, there were next to no young people in local churches, but now we have a number who are part of local worshipping communities and have been baptised.
