Oriel Ministries is a Christian youth work project based in Launceston, Cornwall. Oriel runs youth clubs in its own venue in Launceston, The Loft, and at a local leisure centre. It also takes the Pulse double decker bus (equipped with climbing wall/video equipment) to locations in Cornwall and Devon, working with schools and churches.
This summer, the Pulse Bus has engaged 3,100 young people, including visits to St Stephen’s Community Academy (KS2 2 workshops and a whole-school assembly, followed by a six-week commitment) and Jacobstow School (a KS2 assembly on identity and respect from a Christian perspective, followed by eight weeks of Pulse Bus visits). These programmes were tied into the local Churches’ Together event in Bude – a free family fun festival where 700 young people came onto the bus. In July, we launched our first Summit Youth Gathering, with worship and music led by Philippa Hanna. This event drew 85 young people from across Cornwall, with churches travelling from within a 50-mile radius. We also hosted Base Camp events throughout the summer, running 16 events… These were attended by 1,100 young people. Significantly, 300 of these were new attendees who had never been to an Oriel event before.
