Bethany Christian Trust is a Christian charity working to end homelessness in Scotland, one person at a time. Their Bridge to Freedom recovery programme explores topics such as forgiveness, identity, honesty and trust, as well as offering life and educational skills. Lauderdale Trust funding supports Joe, who works as the Recovery Worker in Edinburgh.
“Whenever some of the guys share their stories – there is always something I can relate to from my own journey, and I think that is helpful. Bringing it into the light breaks the power of it. It normalizes it and stops the belief that you are the only one which helps you move on. It shows you there’s always hope and a way out. It’s important to never give up on others – people who are trapped in the cycle of addiction time and time again. To have grace to be there for them and to be a consistent presence in their life. To always be there rooting for them and praying for them. Being addicted isn’t the end and that’s what I’m taking to these guys.”
